A public and private sector initiative

Since the early 1980s we have worked to rejuvenate and diversify the business sector. Today Pajala has leading companies in the leather, wood and electronics industries with markets around the world. The electronics and computer industry has shown the most powerful growth in Pajala in recent years, and together with forestry and the wood processing industry is the largest industrial sector in Pajala.

The electronics and computer industry has built up a high level of skills, with companies that develop, administrate and manufacture products based on electronics and software. Several of the electronics companies in Pajala are among the leaders in Sweden in their field, and are frequent flyers at Pajala's new airport.

In order further to stimulate and support the development of traditional and new industries, local businesses and Pajala Municipality have jointly started a development agency - Pajala Utveckling AB - which is 51 % owned by the companies.

The work of the agency is to include the following range of services:

Consulting/services in business development
Structure and development issues
Infrastructure issues
Setting up contacts
Contributing to finding funding solutions
Part-funding pre-studies

The agency's efforts are principally aimed at companies that:

Have growth potential, profitability and a market outside Pajala
Process locally-produced materials
Sell services with the help of IT
That work with computing and electronics
